It’s already been reported that eCommerce sales in the U.S. are expected to grow to $370 billion by 2017, representing 10% of all retail sales, as projected by Forrester – but how does that growth compare to other countries, such as Brazil?

The online shopping trend is global….

Brazilian e-commerce grew by 24% during the first half of 2013, compared to the same period in 2012, reaching a R$ 12,74 billion turnover.

The numbers registered in the first half contribute towards maintaining positive forecasts for all of 2013, which should finish with a R$ 28 billion turnover, representing 25% growth compared to last year, when the sector registered a R$ 22.5 billion turnover.

This is reported by E-bit, a company specialized in gathering information from the sector, in the 28th Edition of the WebShoppers report. Launched in Sao Paulo, WebShoppers presents market data, as well as a profile of new eConsumers.

The Fashion & Accessories category was ranked in first place at 13.7%. Cosmetics and Perfumery/Personal care/Health, at 12.2%, was in third place.

These results are even more impressive when you consider the current economic scenario in Brazil – an international crisis, low GDP, and economy slowdown.

According to Pedro Guasti, general director at E-bit, this results in a chnage in consuemr attitudes, including lower consumption expectations.

Guasti explains, “Consumers tend to be more careful and demanding in these times. Thus, they are attracted by the advantages offered by the sector such as lower prices, practicality and payment deadlines that are more flexible.”
